As part of the Los Angeles Lakers‘ ongoing “Genius Series,” rap star Kendrick Lamar met with the team Friday.

The Lakers shared photos of Lamar’s visit on Twitter:

Per ESPN.com’s Ohm Youngmisuk, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka started the series last season to talk with players about “sacrifice, preparation and releasing negativity.”

“It’s funny ’cause sometimes you don’t talk to other people that are at the top of their craft and when you talk to them you see the parallels,” Lakers guard Josh Hart told Youngmisuk. “When he gets ready for a show, he lets all the negativity out. He doesn’t party. He doesn’t do certain things before shows because he wants to be dialed [in], he wants to be focused for him to get his message across in that show and people who pay money to see him.”

The Toronto Raptors made a statement Friday night, beating the Boston Celtics 113-101 in an early-season Eastern Conference clash at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Raptors small forward Kawhi Leonard turned in a standout performance for the 2-0 Raptors, registering a game-high 31 points to go along with 10 rebounds and three assists.

The Celtics, who fell to 1-1, received balanced scoring throughout their lineup in the loss, as all five starters scored in double figures.

After struggling in the season-opening win over the Philadelphia 76ers, both Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward showed marked improvement Friday.

Irving finished with a team-high 21 points as well as six assists and four rebounds, while Hayward pitched in 14 points and seven rebounds.

Boston wasted a solid shooting effort from three-point range, as it connected at a 38.9 percent clip. The Celtics struggled from inside the arc, though, as Toronto out-shot Boston 46.7 percent to 40.4 percent overall.

What’s Next?

Boston will have a chance to bounce back Saturday when it travels to New York City to take on the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Meanwhile, the Raptors will look to improve to 3-0 on Saturday when they face the Washington Wizards on the road.

The Brewers aren’t going to give up the National League pennant easily

Former Yankees skipper Joe Girardi has reportedly withdrawn his name for consideration in the Reds’ managerial search, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Per Rosenthal, Girardi was considered the frontrunner for the position, but elected to keep his current gig as an MLB Network analyst for the foreseeable future.

The 54-year-old skipper holds a lifetime 988-794 record in 11 years with the Marlins and Yankees. He cut his teeth on the Marlins’ 2006 season, during which the team skidded to a fourth-place finish in the NL East, then helped the Yankees to 10 consecutive winning records and a World Series title. While Mark Feinsand of MLB.com adds that Girardi “absolutely wants to manage again,” it’s unclear when and with whom he might choose to do so.

Without Girardi, the Reds still have several candidates left in play, not the least of whom is retired MLB third baseman David Bell. Bell previously served as the Reds’ Double-A and Triple-A manager from 2008-2012 and racked up a cumulative 227-332 record during that span. His resume also includes several coaching positions with the Cubs and Cardinals, and most recently, a role as VP of player development for the Giants in 2018. As Rosenthal points out, however, the 46-year-old coach is hardly a lock for a managerial spot with the Reds, as he’s also made a strong impression on the Blue Jays, Rangers, and Giants this fall.

Minnesota Timberwolves fans haven’t taken too kindly to the recent actions of All-Star Jimmy Butler and head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Prior to the T-Wolves’ home opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, Butler and Thibodeau received a chorus of boos from the Target Center crowd during introductions:

The fans didn’t stop voicing their opinion when the game started. Baseball Prospectus’ Aaron Gleeman noted Butler was being booed every time he touched the ball.

Butler has been seeking a trade from the Timberwolves, but the team has kept the 29-year-old on the roster to start the regular season.

Thibodeau, who also serves as Minnesota’s president of basketball operations, was unable to convince Butler to change his stance on wanting to leave the organization.

Despite the apparent bad blood between Butler and the Timberwolves, the four-time All-Star isn’t holding out. He scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Wednesday’s season-opening loss against the San Antonio Spurs.
