According to widespread reports in South America, Jurgen Klinsmann is set to become Ecuador’s new national coach.

El Universo, the biggest paper in Ecuador, believe Klinsmann’s appointment is a virtual done deal.

However, at the time of writing, Klinsmann has yet to be confirmed as the new manager of Ecuador.

Klinsmann’s competition for the Ecuador job

Other managers who have been linked to the Ecuador job include:

– Gianni de Biasi
– José Pékerman
– Santiago Solari
– Fernando Hierro

What’s Klinsmann been up to recently?

The former Tottenham striker has been involved with media work recently.

Out of a managerial job, Klinsmann has been seen on German TV as an expert for RTL.

What’s Klinsmann managerial record?

While he had a glittering career as a player, Klinsmann’s managerial record has been less impressive.

Now 55, Klinsmann has previously been in charge of Germany, Bayern Munich and United States.

Klinsmann took Germany to the World Cup semifinals before joining Bayern.

He lasted less than a year at the Allianz Arena before being sacked.

Klinsmann spent five-years with USMNT, while winning the 2013 Gold Cup, before being fired.

During his time at US Soccer, Klinsmann oversaw defeats to Jamaica, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

What Klinsmann has previously said about returning to management

Speaking to Sport Bild back in October 2018, Klinsmann outlined the type of job he was targeting:

If (I return), I want to lead an association of a certain calibre and with the goal to reach the semifinals at the World Cup.

Are Ecuador really a nation who can achieve that goal? That’s unlikely.
