Henderson ‘confident’ of being United’s first-choice keeper if de Gea leaves

According to the Manchester Evening News, Dean Henderson is confident of becoming Man United’s first-choice keeper due to David de Gea’s uncertain Old Trafford future.

De Gea has just over a year remaining on his current United contract with no fresh deal in place yet.

The Spaniard has also been linked with a move to Ligue 1 giants PSG.

Should de Gea remain at United this summer without signing a fresh deal, PSG would then be able to sign him to a pre-contract agreement in January, meaning Man United would lose him for free at the end of the 2019/20 season.

De Gea has also not been in great form this campaign.

The normally solid keeper has made several big errors this season.

Man United have also only managed two home clean sheets in the Premier League this season.

Where will Henderson end up?

As per the report from MEN, if de Gea is sold this summer, Henderson wants to come back to Manchester to be their number one keeper.

However, if de Gea is not sold in the upcoming window, the 22-year-old is reportedly keen to stay on loan with newly-promoted Sheffield United.

This also looks to be something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants.

When speaking about Henderson last week, OGS had this to say:

“Let’s see with Dean.

“He’s won promotion with Sheffield United and been fantastic. For him to play a year in the Premier League might be the best thing.”As quoted by Manchester Evening News.
