Why Hugo Lloris is missing for Tottenham’s clash with Man City

An explanation for Hugo Lloris’ absence from the Spurs squad for their clash with Manchester City this afternoon has emerged online.

The two sides are currently locked in action at the Etihad, in a crucial matchup in the race for both the Premier League title, and a spot in the top-4.

A victory for hosts City would see Pep Guardiola’s men leapfrog Liverpool back into top-spot in the English top-flight table (at least temporarily), ahead of the Reds’ trip to Cardiff City tomorrow evening.

A Tottenham win, meanwhile, would see the North Londoners open up a considerable 4-point buffer over London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in the battle for a Champions League berth for next season.

This afternoon’s clash in Manchester of course marks the 3rd time that City and Spurs have met over the course of the last 2 weeks.

The preceding meeting, on Wednesday night, saw the latter book their spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League, despite a 4-3 defeat at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola opted for the following, with no place for the likes of Fernandinho or David Silva, but Phil Foden handed his first-ever Premier League start:

Mauricio Pochettino’s matchday squad, meanwhile, saw both Hugo Lloris and Kieran Trippier completely absent:

As such, speaking in a pre-match interview ahead of kick-off in Manchester, Pochettino was questioned on Lloris’ omission this afternoon, with the Tottenham boss having confirmed that his side’s no.1 has picked up ‘a small muscle problem’:
