Crystal Palace wasters slammed by Martin Samuel after Spurs & Man City

Martin Samuel on Crystal Palace wasters

In his column in the Daily Mail on Tuesday, Martin Samuel has torn into Crystal Palace.

The reporter accuses the Eagles of having wasted their 2018-19 season.

Moreover, Palace have been slammed as they all “too often they go out to play with minimum ambition.”

Palace are 13th in the Premier League with 39 points from 34 games. The Eagles seem assured of Premier League survival for another season being 11 points above Cardiff.

Tottenham & Man City

So what’s the evidence for Martin Samuel’s Crystal Palace bashing?

He’s pointed to recent defeats to Tottenham and Man City:

Once again, faced with superior opposition, Crystal Palace only tried to win the game having lost it.

At Tottenham, they were 2-0 down before getting on the front foot late, and delivering several scares; against Manchester City, the same scoreline sparked life and Palace actually pulled a goal back before being caught by a counter-attack.

To be clear, Palace lost 2-0 against Spurs. That match was Tottenham’s first in their brand new stadium.

Palace also lost 2-1 to Man City. Interestingly, Samuel failed to mention Crystal Palace’s 3-2 win at Man City earlier this season in his article.

He does, however, use wins over Leicester (home, away) and Wolves (away) as further ‘proof’ the the club have actually underperformed this season.

Crystal Palace’s remaining fixtures

While Crystal Palace’s season is approaching an early end, they can still play a large part in the Premier League season.

Next weekend they take on top-four hopefuls Arsenal.

A home match against Everton is then followed by a game away at relegation threatened Cardiff.

Bournemouth visit Selhurst Park on the final day of the season.
