Footage of Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes’ emotional celebrations following his side’s victory versus Crystal Palace has emerged online this afternoon.

Watford vs Crystal Palace

Javi Gracia’s men welcomed Palace to Vicarage Road a short time ago, for an FA Cup quarter-final showdown.

The Hornets secured their place in the tournament’s final-8 courtesy of a 1-0 win at QPR last month.

Roy Hodgson’s Eagles, meanwhile, put League One outfit Doncaster Rovers to the sword by 2 goals to nil in their own last-16 outing.

Watford march on

This afternoon’s clash saw Watford come out of the traps on top, with the hosts having been rewarded for their positive start when Etienne Capoue stabbed home to open the scoring following a corner in the 27th-minute.

Palace grew into proceedings as the matchup wore on, though, before deservedly pulling level just past the hour-mark, courtesy of a superb finish from Michy Batshuayi.

The closing half-hour saw both sides threaten to bag a winner, with the tie-clinching strike having eventually come 10 minutes from time, when a typically-classy piece of work from Roberto Pereyra saw the Argentine pick out substitute Andre Gray for a volleyed finish.

Gomes brought to tears

The final-whistle sounding this afternoon unsurprisingly led to frantic celebrations among the home crowd, with Watford now set for a memorable trip to Wembley on the 6th of April.

However, no individual inside Vicarage Road appeared more emotional on the back of the Hornets’ victory than shot-stopper Heurelho Gomes.

38-year-old Gomes is set to call time on his career this summer, following 5 years on Watford’s books.

However, with the Brazilian sitting firmly behind Ben Foster in the club’s goalkeeping pecking order, today’s appearance may very well have marked Gomes’ last in front of the Hornets’ faithful at Vicarage Road.

And the significance of the occasion was certainly not lost on the former Spurs star, who, as he made his way around the pitch following the full-time whistle to take in the adulation of the home fans, couldn’t help but let the tears flow:
