Man City boss Pep Guardiola provides positive De Bruyne & Mendy injury updates

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola this morning provided updates on the respective returns to fitness of Kevin De Bruyne and Benjamin Mendy.

City on fire

City are set to travel to the Liberty Stadium for an FA Cup quarter-final clash this evening, as the Sky Blues aim to keep their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple alive.

The Premier League champions put German outfit Schalke to the sword in absolutely ruthless fashion in their last outing, on Tuesday night.

Sergio Aguero (2), Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus were all on target, in a typically-scintillating attacking showing on the part of Pep Guardiola’s men.

As such, with the Citizens having already clinched the League Cup title, and regained sole ownership of top spot in the Premier League table, every upcoming fixture in City’s schedule is set to prove a crucial one.

City boost

And, ahead of a much-needed break from competitive outings over the imminent two-week international break, Pep Guardiola this morning revealed that his side’s season run-in is set to be aided by the return of a pair of key players.

Speaking to the media a short time ago, the City boss confirmed that both Kevin De Bruyne and Benjamin are on course to return to the pitch at the end of the month:

‘It happened. The first injury (for De Bruyne) was knees. When you are long-term absent due to knee problems it sometimes influences the hamstring.’

‘He doesn’t feel quite well right now, not 100%. Doctors and Kevin tell me after international break he will be ready.’

‘I think before the Bournemouth injury, he was reaching a high level. Kevin knows he needs games, but he always creates something for the team. The important thing is he will be back.’

‘Mendy will hopefully be fit after the international break, too.’
