Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has explained why he could be forced to leave Stamford Bridge.

The World Cup winner has fallen behind new signing Gonzalo Higuain in the pecking order and he is unhappy being second choice.

The Frenchman left Arsenal in search of greater first-team action and he could now do the same with Chelsea.

Giroud: “Will I settle for being a substitute at 32? No”

Giroud has expressed his discontent for his uncertain position in Maurizio Sarri’s team.

Whilst the 32-year-old is preferred in the Europa League, his role in the league has been limited.

The striker insists he will not settle for a second-string role which could worry Chelsea fans.

Giroud said:

“I am a competitor, I want to play every single game and to be happy on the pitch.

“But I am not picking the team, the manager makes some choices.

“I play in the Europa League and I am happy to help the team to go through the stages step by step. The target is clearly to win it.

“The Premier League is another thing, you know? I have no idea.

“Will I settle for being a substitute at 32? No.

“No chance. I want to take maximum pleasure on the pitch.

“That’s why when I play I try to enjoy the game as much as I can.”
