Andy Robertson’s Champions League ban

Liverpool’s win at Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday ended on a bum note.

In the final minutes of the match Andy Robertson was booked.

Robertson was cautioned after a foul on Leon Goretzka.

The Scottish left-back mistimed a challenge in the Liverpool half which sent Goretzka crashing to the deck.

That booking means that Robertson will be banned for Liverpool’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg.

For the record, had Robertson avoided a booking in Germany, his yellow cards would have been scraped by virtue of reaching the final eight.

To be clear, all players who have qualified for the final eight of the Champions League are given a clean slate regarding bookings picked up earlier in the tournament.

Jurgen Klopp on Andy Robertson’s ban

After the match, Jurgen Klopp had the following to say about Robertson’s booking:

It was silly but he is still a young boy. We should not worry about things like that though.

Robertson’s absence from Liverpool’s next Champions League match will give Klopp a selection headache.

Alberto Moreno, who has barely been seen this season, could fill in at left-back.

Alternatively, Liverpool’s utility star James Milner could be deployed in the full-back slot.
