Predicted XIs: Erik Lamela’s new Spurs role & no room for Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic

Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund

Spurs welcome Borussia Dortmund to Wembley tonight in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Can Tottenham advance into the quarter-finals of world football’s premier club competition?

Last season Tottenham knocked BVB out of the Champions League.

However Dortmund have changed significantly since then, while they now sit top of the Bundesliga.

Erik Lamela’s new Spurs role

In the Times on Wednesday, the broadsheet have gone about predicting the respective line-ups.

Starting with Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino has several injury constraints.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Danny Rose have all been ruled out through injury.

Ben Davies is also an injury doubt, leaving Spurs with a major left-back problem.

The Times believe that Pochettino will field Jan Vertonghen in the full-back slot to cover.

Further upfield, the Times predict that Erik Lamela could start in a false nine role for the Lillywhites.

There’s no room for Fernando Llorente in the starting XI.

Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen are deployed in attacking roles down the flanks.

The Times also insert Eric Dier into the centre of Tottenham’s midfield.

Whether Dier starts, however, is in doubt. The utility player is returning to action after appendicitis and a bout of illness.

No room for Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic in BVB’s XI

When it comes to the Dortmund line-up, the Times don’t believe that Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic will make the cut.

The Times predict that Maximilian Philipp could be given the attacking midfield role, while Mario Gotze could start up-top.

For the record, Dortmund have already ruled out four players for the Spurs game.

Marco Reus, Julian Weigl, Paco Alcacer and Lukasz Piszczek will be missing for the Germans.
