Jurgen Klopp charged by FA after West Ham comments

Klopp punished for referee comments

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been charged by the FA following comments he made after the clash with West Ham last week.

The Reds needed to win to stay on top of the Premier League before Manchester City faced Everton.

Though, they could only manage a draw against Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham.

The headlines after the game were dominated by some pretty questionable decisions by the officials.

Liverpool scored a goal which should not have stood due to an offside in the build-up.

The referee then went on to make some questionable decisions in the eyes of Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp suggested that because the referee had found out Liverpool’s goal was wrongly allowed, he tried to level things up in the second half.

“I heard our goal was offside, I’m pretty sure the ref knew that in the second half,” he explained, as quoted by the BBC.

“In 50-50 situations or 60-40, it was always a free-kick for the other team, which was hard and did not make life easy.”

FA take action against Klopp

Now, the Football Association have taken action against Klopp over his comments.

The FA claim that his comments breached Rule E3(1), which relates to questioning the “integrity of the match referee and/or implied bias.”

“It is alleged that comments he made in a post-match interview following Liverpool’s league game against West Ham United on 4 February 2019 breached Rule E3(1) as they questioned the integrity of the match referee and/or implied bias,” their statement on social media explained.

Klopp will have until 18:00 on 18 February to respond.
