Per Mertesacker on how Dortmund can exploit Tottenham
Tottenham vs Dortmund
Tottenham host German outfit Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday.
Spurs head into the game on a solid run of form having picked up four wins out their last four league games.
Dortmund, on the other hand, have drawn their last two league games, the latest of which saw them blow a three-goal lead.
Despite this, Dortmund still sit five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
One of the reasons why Dortmund are doing so well this season is Jadon Sancho. Sancho has scored seven and assisted 11 in 21 league games this term.
Listen to what Mauricio Pochettino had to say on the youngster below.
.@Sanchooo10‘s rise has come as no great surprise to Mauricio Pochettino:
“We knew that he was capable of doing what he is doing now with game time. We have seen the quality that he was showing in @ManCity and for his national team” #TOTBVB

Mertesacker urges Dortmund to exploit tired Tottenham
Ahead of the UCL tie between Spurs and Dortmund, former Arsenal player Per Mertesacker has told Dortmund Tottenham’s weakness.
After playing in England for Arsenal, Mertesacker believes all English teams in the CL, including Spurs, are at a disadvantage due to them not having a winter break:
“I’ve personally experienced what it’s like when the most intense month is December, when your body actually has to shut down to be fit for the crucial games in April, May.
“That’s why the English record in the last sixteen is so weak, the German clubs have to exploit that factor and keep up the pace, and they should not be intimidated.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.
It was announced last year that the Premier League will introduce a short winter break in February. However, that will not come into effect until next season.
