Barcelona agree terms with Luka Jovic – FAZ

As per a report from German outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Spanish champions Barcelona have reached an agreement over the personal terms of a contract with Eintracht Frankfurt loanee Luka Jovic.

Red Star record-breaker

Jovic, a 21-year-old centre-forward who can also play in an attacking-midfield role, came up through the youth ranks of Red Star Belgrade in his home country of Serbia.

After breaking into the club’s first-team setup at the tender age of 16 in 2014, Jovic soon went on to become Red Star’s youngest ever-goalscorer, with his impressive showings over the preceding two seasons at the Rajko Mitić Stadium having eventually seen Portuguese giants Benfica snap the hitman up in February of 2016.

After struggling for game-time with the Eagles, however, Benfica opted to farm Jovic out on loan at the beginning of last season.

Eintracht stint

And it has been his showings over the course of this two-year loan away from Lisbon that have since seen Jovic begin to turn heads around Europe.

The 3-time capped international has been plying his trade with Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt for the last 18 months.

The hitman’s debut campaign at the Commerzbank-Arena saw him notch a respectable 9 goals across all competitions.

The current season, though, has seen Jovic’s production reach new heights altogether.

Across 25 appearances between the Bundesliga and Europa League, the gifted attacker has racked up 19 goal and 3 assists.

Barcelona bound?

As such, inevitable links between Jovic and some of European football’s biggest clubs have emerged over recent weeks.

The likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been touted as potential destinations for the Benfica-owned goalscorer.

But, as per the aforementioned report from FAZ, which has since gained widespread traction online, one of these clubs, in the form of Barcelona, appear to have taken a clear lead in the race to secure Jovic’s signature.

The Blaugrana are said to have agreed personal terms with the Serb over a summer switch to the Camp Nou.

Jovic is viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Luis Suarez in Catalunya.

As such, it is now up to the La Liga champions to thrash out a deal with the youngster’s club.

However, with Eintracht widely-expected to take up their option to buy on Jovic come the end of the season, it will be the German outfit, and not Benfica, that Barca will need to negotiate with.
