Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tonight discussed the struggles of Alexis Sanchez at Manchester United, ahead of the Red Devils’ clash with PSG.

United are currently locked in action with the French champions at Old Trafford, in the first-leg of the Champions League last-16 tie between the clubs.

The hosts of course headed into proceedings this evening on an absolute tear of late, on the back of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment at the club late in December.

The Red Devils’ latest outing, a 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday, saw them make it 10 wins from 11 across all competitions since their new boss’ arrival.

Martial is ‘indispensable’

Of the countless players to have benefitted from Solskjaer’s appointment at United, Anthony Martial has certainly been towards the top of the list, with the Frenchman having made the spot on the left of the Red Devils’ front-3 very much his own over recent weeks.

As such, Martial’s stellar form has seen his main competitor for a place in Solskjaer’s XI, Alexis Sanchez, largely confined to the bench under his new boss, continuing his hugely-frustrating spell since making the move to Old Trafford from Arsenal a year ago.

And the manager to have overseen possibly the finest form of the Chilean’s career, Arsene Wenger, has this evening provided his take on Sanchez’s struggles for game-time with United, also revealing his opinion that Anthony Martial should be considered as ‘indispensable’ in Manchester:

‘He has lost his place. He plays in the same position as Martial. Today, who would dispute today that he is indispensable for Manchester United? Nobody.’
