Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has this evening singled Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer out for special praise, as the Norwegian tactician prepares for his first taste of management on European football’s grandest stage.

Man United vs PSG

Solskjaer’s Red Devils are set to welcome French powerhouse PSG to Old Trafford for the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie tonight.

PSG head into proceedings with plenty of problems on the personnel front, with the likes of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Thomas Meunier all having been ruled out with respective injury problems.

The capital outfit have nevertheless managed to notch 6 wins from their last 7 across all competitions, though.

Hosts United, meanwhile, aside from Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian, neither of whom would have been expected to start at Old Trafford tonight, have a fully fit squad to choose from.

The Red Devils head into tonight’s matchup brimming with confidence, having embarked on an absolutely superb run of form of late.

Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment at the club late in December, United have racked up 10 wins and a draw from their last 11 outings across all competitions:

‘Something fantastic’

And one of those to have been hugely-impressed by Solskjaer’s start to life at the helm at Old Trafford is former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Speaking as part of his role as a pundit on beIN Sports this evening, Wenger was questioned on both Solskjaer and PSG boss Thomas Tuchel, ahead of what is no doubt set to be a fascinating tactical battle between two attack-minded coaches.

After highlighting the relative lack of experience of both managers on the Champions League stage, Wenger went on to lavish praise on Solskjaer for his positive, attack-minded approach:

‘He has given Manchester United something fantastic: an impulse, a freedom and a positiveness.’

Wenger continued:

‘When Mourinho left, the next 5 games were winnable. Each win gives confidence… For me Man United are now a counter-attacking team with very mobile players, with 1 man in the middle like Pogba who can create the first difference.’
