Chelsea’s Gonzalo Higuain may have outscored Man City’s Sergio Aguero – Graeme Souness

Manchester City vs Chelsea

Can Chelsea beat Man City again?

The Blues became the first side in the Premier League this season to beat Man City in the league.

Goals from N’Golo Kante and David Luiz earned the Pensioners a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Yet the Sky Blues will be highly motivated to exert revenge on Sunday. A win for Pep Guardiola’s men will lift them above Liverpool into first.

Liverpool beat Bournemouth 3-0 at Anfield yesterday.

Gonzalo Higuain vs Sergio Aguero

In his weekly Sunday Times op-ed, Graeme Souness has compared and contrasted Gonzalo Higuain to Sergio Aguero.

Higuain scored twice on his Chelsea home debut last weekend in the Premier League against Huddersfield.

As for Aguero, the City striker is the third top scorer in the league on 14 goals.

Of course, Higuain and Aguero know each other very well from the Argentine international scene.

Higuain may have outscored Aguero

Souness wonders how successful Higuain may have been in the Premier League had he moved to England earlier in his career:

It’s fair to say the Scot is a big fan of the Juventus loanee striker, as he said:

Higuain is more than just a goalscorer — he also has the football brain to play alongside anyone.

I rate him so highly that I believe he would have similar scoring numbers to Sergio Aguero if he had been at Manchester City for the past eight seasons, as his compatriot has.

Chelsea’s Higuain problem

Yet Souness is also aware that Higuain is no longer in his prime.

Indeed, will the South American proved successful in west London? Souness has his doubts:

My only question mark is: he is 31 now, so has he come a little too late to the Premier League party?

Chelsea have been there before with another world-class striker in Andriy Shevchenko. The Ukrainian arrived from AC Milan in 2006 just before turning 30 but was clearly past his peak.

That’s the only worry I have, that Higuain is already the wrong side of 30 — so how much life does he have left in him?
