Wolves plan to sign Stoke City’s Moritz Bauer

Wolves & Stoke’s Moritz Bauer

One of Wolves’s standout players this season has been right-back Matt Doherty.

Doherty has often been used as a winger as Nuno Espirito Santo has played with wing-backs.

But could Doherty soon face competition for his place in the team?

According to the Express & Star, Wolves are looking to sign Stoke City’s Austrian right-back Moritz Bauer:

The Express & Star understands that Wolves are working on a deal to sign him for the rest of the season.

Stoke paid £5.5m for Bauer a year ago but he has fallen out of favour at the bet365 Stadium and hasn’t played since September.

Now 26, Moritz Bauer agreed a five-year deal with Stoke last summer.

That deal was made when Gary Rowett was in charge of the Potters.

He’s since been sacked, while Nathan Jones is now in charge of Stoke having left Luton Town.

Bauer has been frozen out of action at the Bet365 Stadium this season. He’s only made two starts and one substitute appearance in the Championship this season.

One has to assume that Bauer would be keen on swapping Stoke for Wolves.
