Manchester United’s supporters have flooded to Twitter this evening to lavish praise on Ander Herrera, following the Spanish midfielder’s superb showing versus Tottenham.

Spurs vs Manchester United

The Red Devils travelled to Wembley for a Premier League clash with Spurs, in a meeting of two sides in fine form.

Visitors United had picked up 5 straight wins since Jose Mourinho’s sacking and subsequent replacing by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last month, with the Manchester giants having showcased the kind of attacking flair that had so long been absent under their former boss.

Tottenham, meanwhile, had picked up 9 wins from their last 11 across all competitions. In addition, since their shock loss at home to Wolves last month, the North Londoners had won 3 straight, scoring 11 goals and conceding none in the process.

Rashford makes the difference

In the end, when all was said and done, United came out on top in the English capital, courtesy of a solitary strike from Marcus Rashford.

After being set free by Paul Pogba on the stroke of half-time, the English hitman burst into the Tottenham box, before driving a pinpoint finish past the helpless Hugo Lloris to put the Red Devils in front.

Quite how the game’s scoring remained at 1, though, was beyond belief.

The second-half saw David De Gea string together an absolute highlight reel of stunning saves to keep United in things, with the Spanish shot-stopper’s heroics having been, at times, nothing short of staggering.

‘Such an underrated player’

However, while, at full-time, it was De Gea who understandably took the plaudits, large sections of United’s fanbase singled another of their side’s Spanish contingent, in the form of Ander Herrera, out for special praise.

Former Athletic Bilbao man Herrera put in a superb, controlled showing in the middle of the park for the visitors.

The 29-year-old showcased the complete repertoire of a modern midfielder, combining a calming presence on the ball with superb positioning and tenacity when put of possession.
