Leicester 1 – Southampton 2

The results of Leicester City are impossible to predict at the moment.

Sitting eighth in the Premier League, the Foxes are almost winning the race to be the ‘best of the rest’ in the division.

In recent weeks Leicester have beaten the likes of Man City, Everton and Chelsea.

Yet they’ve also lost to Cardiff, Newport and now Southampton.

A James Ward Prowse penalty fired Southampton into the lead. Shane Long ended his personal goal drought to score the crucial second for the Saints.

Wilfred Ndidi bagged what proved to be a consolation for Leicester.

The contentious issue surrounding Jamie Vardy occurred on the hour mark.

Vardy hit the deck in the Southampton box with Jannik Vestergaard and Jack Stephens in close company.

Was Vardy touched? No, that was perfectly clear.

Put another way, Vardy cheated as he tried to con referee Michael Oliver into awarding a penalty.

Why Jamie Vardy won’t get punished for diving

Should Vardy be punished for his simulation?

In good news for the Leicester striker, it was confirmed on Match of the Day that Vardy won’t be banned for diving.

Why? Because referee Oliver made his decision about the dive during the game.

By waving play on, Oliver absolved Vardy from any future punishment.

The Match of the Day panel, however, find the FA rules on diving to make no sense.

The talking-heads advocated for Vardy to reprimanded for his bad behaviour.
