AFC Bournemouth have this evening confirmed the extent of the injury suffered by midfielder Lewis Cook.

Bournemouth 2-1 Huddersfield

Bournemouth welcomed Huddersfield to the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night, with the hosts having eventually emerged with a hard-fought 3 points.

Goals from Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser inside the opening 22 minutes had seen the Cherries look as though they were set to cruise to a comfortable win.

However, Huddersfield soon grew into proceedings, and were justly-rewarded for their efforts through Terence Kongolo’s finish shortly before the interval.

And the visitors subsequently went on to dominate for the vast majority of the remainder of the clash.

In the end, though, the Terriers were unable to find an all-important equalizer, with Bournemouth having (temporarily) moved up to 6th-place in the Premier League table courtesy of their 3-point haul.

Cook crocked

However, while the result proved a positive one for Eddie Howe’s men on Tuesday, they were also dealt a blow on the injury-front.

Midfielder Lewis Cook was the player to have picked up the problem, as confirmed during tests in the immediate aftermath of the clash.

However, what has only since been revealed, is the true extent of Cook’s injury:

In a statement on Bournemouth’s official website, the club confirmed:

‘AFC Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook will be sidelined for six-to-nine months with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.’

‘Cook was assessed by the club’s medical staff following the match (versus Huddersfield). Further assessment and scans on Wednesday revealed the extent of the damage to his right knee.’

Cherries’ boss Eddie Howe, meanwhile, provided his backing to Cook in a further statement a short time ago:

‘We are all devastated for Lewis. It is a huge blow to a very talented player who has been a very important part of our side over the last 18 months.’

‘But Lewis is a strong character who only has to look around our dressing room for inspiration of how an injury like this is merely a setback. And to know that he can come back better than ever.’

‘He will have the full support and love of everyone at the club throughout the next few months as he receives the very best treatment and rehabilitation possible.’

‘Back stronger and better’

And Cook himself has since taken to Twitter to post an update on his mental state, with the English international having done his best to stay positive with his message:
