Everton boss Marco Silva defends Jurgen Klopp over Merseyside derby celebration

Marco Silva has today surprisingly moved to defend Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, after the German was hit with a fine for his celebrations following the Reds’ last-minute derby winner versus Everton.

Liverpool 1-0 Everton

The rivalry between Liverpool and Everton was reignited this past weekend, when the former welcomed their Mersey neighbours to Anfield for the latest edition of the Merseyside derby.

In the end, an entertaining affair looked as though it was set to end in stalemate, with clear-cut chances for the likes of Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and Sadio Mane having been either fluffed or well saved.

However, as the clock ticked deep into injury-time, one of the most memorable finishes in recent Premier League history unfolded.

Liverpool emerged as the beneficiaries, and had substitute Divock Origi to thank for their 3 points. However, in truth, the game’s solitary goal was essentially handed to the Reds on a plate by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

In the 94th-minute, Virgil Van Dijk volleyed a wayward strike into the sky, with the Dutchman’s effort having looked certain to sail harmlessly over the Everton bar to safety.

However, Toffees’ goalkeeper Jordan Pickford attempted to intervene, but incredibly only managed to palm the ball back into his own six-yard box, where Origi was waiting to nod home.

Klopp charged

Unsurprisingly, Origi’s winner queued hectic celebrations throughout Anfield. Liverpool’s fans, players and staff alike immediately exploded into life, with one individual to have allowed his emotions to get the better of him having been Jurgen Klopp.

The German burst onto the pitch the second his side’s winner hit the net, frantically sprinting and jumping for joy.

Klopp’s outburst, though, saw the Liverpool boss subsequently charged with misconduct by the FA yesterday afternoon:

One individual who, surprisingly, feels as though Klopp may have been hard done by, however, is Everton boss Marco Silva.

Speaking in a press conference earlier today, Silva revealed his opinion that ‘to celebrate that way was normal’. The former Watford manager also added that he did not feel as though Klopp’s antics were deserving of a fine:
