The Diamondbacks are willing to listen to offers on Goldschmidt, Greinke

This is potentially depressing news for Dbacks fans: Jon Heyman reports that the Diamondbacks are willing to “listen on anyone,” including Paul Goldschmidt and Zack Greinke.

The franchise is definitely at a turning point right now. Two of their biggest stars — A.J. Pollock and Patrick Corbin — are free agents, Goldschmidt going into his walk year and Greinke carries with him an extraordinarily large contract that, while palatable if the team is in playoff contention, makes no sense for a team looking to rebuild. Assuming the Dbacks are going to rebuild, anyway.

For what it’s worth, trading either of their G-men would be a tall order. Goldschmidt remains an MVP-caliber player and is only making $14.5 million in 2019, so he’d take quite a haul of prospects, even if it is his walk year. Greinke, in contrast, is set to make over $90 million over the next three years and would, without question, require the Dbacks to eat a healthy portion of his salary to unload him. If the Snakes are interested in getting prospects for him, sure, that’s an option, as a cheap Greinke would be pretty valuable to any number of teams. If the goal is cost savings, welp, good luck.
