Jonjo Shelvey was substituted early into the second half of Newcastle’s game with Watford this past weekend.

Jonjo Shelvey injury update

After the game Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez gave an update on the condition of Shelvey, Jamaal Lascelles and Yoshinori Muto:

“There are a couple of muscle problems with Shelvey and Muto.

“We will see what is going on. Jamaal had a little problem with his shoulder in a training session the other day, but we will have to wait a little bit and see how they are.

“For Muto, it was the calf, but still it’s too early to know what he has.”

The Chronicle have since provided a further update on Shelvey and it is not looking good.

Shelvey has undergone a scan to determine the seriousness of his muscle injury and it is likely that he will miss Newcastle’s next game vs Bournemouth.

Newcastle vs Bournemouth

While Shelvey’s absence would be a big blow for Newcastle, Ki Sung-yueng is the man likely to replace him.

Ki Sung-yueng was instrumental in Newcastle’s goal that saw them beat Watford 1-0 and pick up their first win of the season.

The midfielder whipped in a powerful free kick, which Ayoze Perez would get on the end of.

Newcastle’s win vs Watford took them out of the relegation zone but only on goal difference.

After finally winning a league game this season vs an inform Watford side, Newcastle will be full of confidence as they prepare to take on Bournemouth.

Bournemouth are currently 6th in the table and are enjoying one of their best starts to a season.

However, their last game would see the Cherries lose 2-1 to Manchester United after being 1-0 up.
