Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to have their new stadium ready for use by mid-December.

Although, this target date is thought to be “optimistic”, sources have informed Construction News.

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Burnley on December 15 had been earmarked as the first game at the new stadium.

However, despite Tottenham pushing for a mid-December completion date, current progress on the stadium suggests it will be operational by early 2019.

The North London club are reluctant to publically commit to a date.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was originally due to open against Liverpool back in September but plans were scrapped.

Spurs are also yet to release details on the revised test events – with two being required before the stadium can open.

Numerous sources are now reporting Burnley will be the first game at the new stadium but that is “optimism”, an insider has told Construction News:

“There has been a fair bit of pressure from the club to hit that (December) date.

“The job has come a long way in the last couple of weeks, but the middle of December is pretty optimistic.

“Onsite people aren’t saying too much about the deadline

“We’ve been given so many finishing dates it’s hard to get excited about the latest one.”
