Chelsea to offer their anti-Semitic fans trips to Auschwitz

Chelsea try to tackle anti-semitism

The Sun have an exclusive story on Thursday on how Chelsea are trying to tackle the scourge of anti-Semitic fans.

Chelsea are looking to set a new trend in football in how to deal with such repulsive incidents.

The current norm in football is to slap banning orders on fans who have been caught being anti-Semitic.

However, fearing such banning orders fail to change the underlying problem, Chelsea are now set to try something new.

Chelsea & Auschwitz

According to the Sun, Chelsea are launching a new initiative to send anti-Semitic fans on educational trips to the Nazi death-camp Auschwitz.

The Sun have spoken to Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck about this new plan:

Bruce Buck said: “If you just ban people, you will never change their behaviour.”

“This policy gives them the chance to realise what they have done, to make them want to behave better.”

“In the past, we would take them from the crowd and ban them, for up to three years.”

“Now we say ‘You did something wrong. You have the option. We can ban you or you can spend some time with our diversity officers, understanding what you did wrong’.”

Key points to Chelsea’s plan

The Sun stress that such educational trips to Auschwitz will not be compulsory.

Chelsea fans found guilty of anti-Semitism can refuse to go on such trips, however in return they’ll face the existing banning orders.

Will such Auschwitz trips come at a cost to the supporters? No.

The Sun report that “Chelsea are so committed to the project they will cover all costs”.

It’s also worth noting that Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich is Jewish.

Abramovich recently became an Israeli citizen.
