Middlesbrough took on Norwich on Saturday as they looked to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

However, Boro did not have a great game and would lose 1-0.

‘It looked an absolute certain penalty for me’

Despite their poor display though, Middlesbrough were not helped by some very bad decisions from the ref, which Tony Pulis has commented upon.

Speaking after the Norwich game, Pulis stated:

“It looked an absolute certain penalty for me down the other end of the pitch when Britt cuts inside the lad, he catches Britt with his thigh and Britt goes down.

“The referee’s in a great, great position to see it but doesn’t give it.

“There are decisions given during the game where free-kicks were given for similar incidents or not even as bad.

“I don’t want to take anything away from Norwich, they were the better team, but I thought (the officials) were poor today overall.

“The incident just before half-time when the lad brings Jonny Howson down and Jonny is going past him and the lad just wrestles him down.

“We’ve been told anything like that is an automatic yellow card but he kid doesn’t get booked.

“There were lots of things that were going on that I wasn’t happy with.”

‘We never looked a threat in the last 20 minutes’

However, Pulis has also admitted that Boro were simply not good enough on Saturday vs Norwich.

“I thought we were all right for the first 25 minutes then we dropped off.

“They played some good football without really (testing) Darren (Randolph). He only had three shots from distance to deal with.

“But we never looked a threat in the last 20 minutes of the first half and started off slowly in the second half as well.

“Then there’s no excuse for the goal,” he added, “the goal was bad defending by George (Friend) and Dael (Fry). They’ve let people play one-twos around them.

“But it’s fortuitous as well because the lad (Pukki) actually toe-pokes it and it’s going wide and it hit Shotts (Ryan Shotton) on the inside of the right foot and goes in.”
