VAR in the Premier League

VAR is currently being trialled in the Premier League.

While the decisions being made won’t affect the games at the minute, officials are using it.

Currently, it’s being tested at the central VAR hub.

It was trialled during the 3pm kick offs, as Premier League chiefs wanted to make sure the officials using VAR wouldn’t be overwhelmed by the volume of games.

Things went well by all accounts, with the officials only flagging up one decision in all of the 3pm games.

Sane and City

The decision they had an issue with was in Manchester City’s game against Fulham.

Manchester City fans will be pleased to know that if VAR does get installed in the Premier League, they may find things going their way.

The goal Leroy Sane scored would have stood.

During the game, it was ruled out for an offside.

Sane would have made it 3-0 to City, yet was judged to be offside,

However, VAR replays ruled he was just on, and the goal would have counted.

Liverpool and Son

One thing that would not have been changed was the foul on Son.

Tottenham Hotspur were furious they didn’t get a penalty after the tackle by Sadio Mane.

However, even with VAR, the decision wouldn’t have changed.

That has of course got many people questioning the system.

The other contentious issue in the game was the injury suffered by Roberto Firmino.

It came on the back of Jan Vertonghen sticking his finger in the forward’s eye.

Firmino had to go off, and went to hospital.

However, Firmino was fine, and took to social media to reassure fans.
