Jose Mourinho hopes four Manchester United stars will extend their contracts

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Watford, Jose Mourinho had his say on the contract situations of four United players whose contracts are coming to an end.

‘I hope they will stay’

When asked about the futures of Luke Shaw, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Ashley Young, Mourinho stated:

“I hope they will stay.

“We had a similar conversation last season about Marouane Fellaini and I was always saying, ‘I hope he stays, I believe he will stay,’ and I say the same thing – I hope they stay.

“I’m happy with the players, David [De Gea] is David, no need for more words. Luke Shaw’s evolution makes us believe that he is going in the right direction – I want to keep him.

“Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, even if they are not playing a lot or if they are not starting matches, by the character point of view and by what they represent in the modern society in football they are almost unique pieces that I also don’t want to lose.”

Manchester United vs Watford

Manchester United host Watford in the final Premier League game of today.

Coming into the game, United have had a somewhat mixed start to the season.

Mourinho’s men kicked off their 2018/19 campaign with 2-1 win over Leicester.

However, Manchester United would then suffer back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Tottenham.

United’s last game saw them beat Burnley 2-0.

Watford, on the other hand, have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season.

The Hornets have picked up wins against Brighton, Burnley, Crystal Palace and most recently, Tottenham.

So, Watford will be by no means an easy game for United.
