Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hits out at Garry Neville

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hits out at Garry Neville

Garry Neville’s Liverpool claim

In a recent interview with The Times, former Manchester United star Garry Neville claimed that Liverpool should not focus on the Champions League this season.

Instead, Neville believes that Liverpool’s sole focus should be trying to dethrone Manchester City and win the Premier League.

However, Jurgen Klopp was not too impressed with Neville’s comments.

‘But sitting in an office and talking about football is completely different to doing the job’

As a result, Klopp has hit back at Neville in a recent press conference, during which he stated:

“How should that work? What do we do? We don’t play Champions League or what?

“Gary should come over and tell me exactly how that would work. How do you prepare a game and not focus on it

“I don’t know what he means with that, to be honest. We have to play football. A lot of people watch our games when we play Champions League and that’s our job that we do the best we can do in all these games.

“That’s what we try. I don’t know exactly what it means but to focus on one competition can only be if maybe you are already out of the competition nearly.

“Last year, for example, we had no chance to focus on one competition because we had to qualify for the Champions League and I don’t think that even Gary Neville would have said: ‘Quarterfinals of the Champions League, let City win.’

“It doesn’t work like this. I don’t want to be too critical because I don’t know exactly how he said it but sitting in an office and talking about football is completely different to doing the job, to be honest. But it’s an opinion.”

Liverpool vs Tottenham

With the first international break of the season over, Liverpool now turn their attention to Saturday’s clash with Tottenham.

Liverpool go into the Spurs game joint top of the league and unbeaten.

Klopp’s men began the season with a 4-0 hammering of Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham.

They then beat Crystal Palace 2-0 and Brighton 1-0.

Liverpool’s last game saw them come away 2-1 winners vs Leicester City, but Spurs will no doubt prove their toughest test so far this season.
