Watford vs Man United: Luke Shaw may play despite England concussion

Watford vs Man United

One of the standout matches in the Premier League this weekend is Watford versus Man United.

Watford have been the surprise team of the season.

Javi Gracia’s side have a perfect record after four matches. Watford are joint top of the league alongside Chelsea and Liverpool.

Man United are 10th in the league after two wins and two defeats.

Luke Shaw may play vs Watford despite concussion

Most have been working on the assumption that Luke Shaw will miss the Watford match.

Shaw has been excellent for Jose Mourinho at the beginning of the 2018-19 season.

Shaw has started all four Premier League matches, while he’s scored and assisted in those games.

Moreover, Shaw, who was omitted from England’s World Cup squad, earned a recall to the national team during the international break.

Against Spain, Shaw started at left-back. He also set up Marcus Rashford for England’s goal against La Roja.

But Shaw’s Spain game ended abruptly after he suffered a nasty head injury in a challenge with Dani Carvajal.

Concussed, Shaw needed oxygen and a stretcher to exit the field against Spain.

But, in a shock update from the BBC’s Simon Stone, it’s been revealed that Shaw may play for Man United against Watford.

Confusing concussion rules explained

The rules surrounding concussions are slightly confusing.

Using Shaw as an example, the BBC have gone through the current protocol in the Premier League:

Football Association guidelines state a player who suffers concussion should not play for 14 days.

But Shaw could play after being treated in United’s “enhanced care setting.”

The guidelines allow a player to return earlier if seven criteria are met, and United’s state-of-the-art medical facilities are understood to meet the requirements.

In conclusion, Shaw’s participation against Watford will come down to decisions made by Jose Mourinho and Man United’s medical staff.
