Hugo Lloris to retain Tottenham Hotspur captaincy despite drink-driving conviction

Pochettino claims that Lloris has “regret” over the incident and is “punishing himself” for his behaviour.

The Argentine believes the 31-year-old should remain captain as “everyone can make a mistake”.

Pochettino confirmed:

“Will he stay as captain? Of course, of course.

“He is the first to regret about everything.

“All that happened yesterday (in court) is not good and he does not feel great. He said he was guilty and responsible.

“The most important thing is that everyone can make a mistake and he is suffering a punishment that society translates to him.

“He is punishing himself. We are not God and we cannot judge people.

“We need to try (to see) that he understands he made a mistake. We can all make a mistake.

“It is a massive lesson for everyone. He said: ‘Gaffer, I made a mistake. Now I need to pay like a man.’”

Tottenham Hotspur will be without duo Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli for their Premier League clash with Liverpool.

The French goalkeeper has been struggling with a thigh injury that saw him miss Spurs’ defeat to Watford.

It is expected that the club captain will be ruled out for ‘several weeks’.

Alli withdrew from the England squad during the week after suffering a “minor muscle strain”.

Spurs could “possibly” be without the midfielder for their Champions League game against Inter Milan on Tuesday, according to Mauricio Pochettino.
