Arsenal and Man City’s fans exchange brilliant Arsene Wenger chants

The chants directed back and forth between Arsenal and Manchester City’s supporters during their clash earlier today have been going viral online this evening.

The two sides went head to head at the Emirates in a 4pm kick-off, in the final fixture of the Premier League’s opening weekend.

The clash marked the competitive debut of new Arsenal boss Unai Emery, while Pep Guardiola’s City were aiming to get their bid to become the first side in history to retain the Premier League title off to a positive start.

On the pitch, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Matteo Guendouzi were handed their full debuts in an Arsenal jersey, while City summer signing Riyad Mahrez was also handed a starting berth for the visitors:

In the end, a relatively straightforward afternoon’s work for Manchester City saw the Sky Blues emerge with a 2-0 victory in north London, courtesy of strikes from Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva.

Arsenal fans will likely not have been overly disappointed with their side’s first display under the tutelage of Unai Emery, as the Gunners did not look the complete raggedy mess they so often have versus the Premier League’s top clubs over recent seasons at the Emirates today.

Back and forth

However, the travelling Manchester City support at the Emirates couldn’t help but take aim at their Gunners counterparts nevertheless, with the Citizens’ fanbase having suggested that the reason Arsene Wenger departed the club this summer was down to their struggles on the pitch.

Not to be outdone, though, Arsenal’s fans quickly hit back, defending their legendary tactician and highlighting the lack of historical success of the Citizens with one simple line:
