Inter Milan blow: Luka Modric decides to remain at Real Madrid
Luka Modric has decided to remain at Real Madrid this season despite strong interest from Inter Milan, according to Marca.
The World Cup Golden Ball recipient has given his word to the club’s hierarchy that he will commit his future to a new long-term contract after being offered improved terms.
The Italian club had been working on a deal to bring the Croatian midfielder to Serie A this summer by making him a six-year contract worth 60m euros and the opportunity to eventually move to their part-owned Chinese club Jiangsu Suning.
Following a meeting on Friday with Real Madrid, Modric and his representatives made the decision to remain at the club this season.
It is understood that the 32-year-old always preferred the idea of remaining in the Spanish capital, despite suggestions that he was in favour of seeking a new challenge this summer.
The player was hoping to seek pay parity alongside the club’s highest earners, with the likes of Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale earning almost double his current wages.
Marca believe that Madrid will now offer Modric a new contract which will potentially keep him at the club until the end of his career.
