Wolves 2 – Everton 2

Wolves have a point on the board after their first game back in the Premier League.

It was a thrilling match at Molineux, as Everton took the lead in the first half through summer signing Richarlison.

In the 40th minute Everton were reduced to ten men. Phil Jagielka was sent off for taking out Diogo Jota when he was the last defender back for Everton.

That gave Wolves a boost, and the hosts levelled just before the break with another Ruben Neves goal from distance.

After the interval Everton retook the lead. Richarlison showed that his right foot can be used for more than standing as he curled home a beauty.

But Wolves salvaged a point. Neves swung in a fine cross which Raul Jimenez headed home in the 80th minute.

Everton fans vs referee Craig Pawson

It’s fair to say that Everton fans were unhappy with the performance of referee Craig Pawson.

Should Jagielka have been sent off?

There’s no doubt that Everton shot themselves in the foot with the dismissal.

Poor control gifted Jota the opportunity, while Jagielka did foul the Wolves man as he was heading towards the box.

Yet some Everton fans are convinced referee Pawson got that decision wrong.

Pawson has also been called out for his poor management of a Wolves free kick.
