According to multiple Italian outlets this morning, a deal between Chelsea and AC Milan over the loan of Tiemoue Bakayoko is all but complete.

Struggles

Bakayoko, a 23-year-old defensive midfielder, made the move to Stamford Bridge last summer for £40 million, following a breakout campaign during Monaco’s shock Ligue 1 title-winning season in 2016/17.

However, despite the Blues having beaten off the competition of a number of European heavyweights to secure his signature, and the French international having arrived in London with hefty expectations on his shoulders, Bakayoko’s debut campaign in England proved, overall, a major disappointment.

Though he managed a respectable 24 Premier League starts, the Rennes youth product ultimately flattered to deceive, often looking lost at the base of Chelsea’s midfield while showcasing both a rashness out of possession and clumsiness on the ball.

San Siro links

As such, there have unsurprisingly already been widespread claims that Bakayoko could be on the move this summer, after just a solitary campaign in England.

And, after Gianluca Di Marzio initially revealed that AC Milan were one of a number of clubs expressing an interest in Bakayoko’s signature two weeks ago, the Sky Italia reporter confirmed that talks between the clubs were underway earlier this week, with the Rossoneri hopeful of clinching a loan deal.

Imminent

And, as per updates from the like of Sky Italia, the Corriere della Sera and more this morning, an agreement to send Bakayoko to the San Siro for the coming season is all but complete, with the only remaining detail to iron out being whether or not a buyout clause is included in the deal.

It is widely expected that Milan will manage to convince Chelsea to insert an option to purchase the Frenchman permanently next summer.
