Everton confirm Kurt Zouma loan signing almost 24 hours after deadline

Better late than never

Everton have confirmed the loan signing of Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma who will spend the entirety of next season on loan at Goodison Park.

The Frenchman has been the subject of much discussion over the past 24 hours.

That is because just a couple of hours before the transfer window closed on Thursday evening, there was news of an agreement between Everton and Chelsea.

That agreement came in the form of a loan move for defender Kurt Zouma who spent last season on loan at Stoke.

Zouma impressed despite Stoke City’s relegation to the EFL Championship and left with his head held high.

However, his performances were seemingly not enough to impress Maurizio Sarri and seal him a spot in the Chelsea first team.

Deadline day drama

That lead to his departure which almost didn’t happen.

That is because after the deal was agreed, there was still much to do in such a short space of time.

So much so that Everton had to submit a deal sheet to give them until 7pm to seal a deal for the player.

7pm then passed and there was no word from Everton as to whether a deal had been done.

The evening also passed but this morning it was claimed that a deal could still happen.

That was later confirmed by Marco Silva who explained a confirmation was close.

Now, the Toffees have confirmed the deal and Zouma will join the club on a season-long loan deal.
