The Texas Rangers designated Outfielder Austin Jackson for assignment.

This after just acquiring him from the Giants two days ago in the trade that also netted them Cory Gearrin. Of course it was likely by design, with the Giants requiring Texas to take Jackson in the deal in order to allow them to get Gearrin. At the time of the trade, Rangers GM Jon Daniels reportedly told the outfielder to hold off on reporting to the club because he may try to flip him sooner rather than later. Guess it was sooner.

Jackson, 31, was batting just .242/.309/.295 through 165 plate appearances this season with San Francisco and will likely pass through waivers unclaimed because he’s owed around $4.5 million on the two-year, $6 million deal he signed before the season.
