New Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui has spoken out about his dramatic Spain sacking this week just 48 hours before their first game against Portugal.

It was revealed Lopetegui had agreed a deal with Los Blancos and the Spanish Footballing Federation were not happy at all.

They claim that they had not been informed about the deal and felt betrayed by Lopetegui.

Now, the Spanish coach has defended himself in his unveiling press conference today.

Julen Lopetegui revealed that yesterday was, after the death of his mother, the saddest day of his life.

“Yesterday, after the death of my mother, was the saddest of my life,” he explained, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“But today is the happiest day of my life. Thank you, and I’m here for whatever you need.”

When there was something to know, he was the first person to know.

“I wanted to give the press conference that same day but he was far away so I had to wait for him.

“Then what happened during those hours, I don’t know. We just wanted to be honest with everyone, to make the agreement public. hiding it would have been bad.

“The players took it absolutely fine. They trained well. And I’ve nothing else to say. I’ll be cheering on that magnificent group of players.

“I would have liked Rubiales to have done things in a different way.”

“I think respect is earned and we earned it. Me and my staff worked really hard, and they (Spanish FA) took our dream away from us.

“They, the players, have a great challenge ahead.

“They’re well prepared and hopefully we have that little bit of luck needed to win the World Cup”
