Atletico Madrid agree personal terms with second Monaco star
As per a report from French outlet TeleFoot this afternoon, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are closing in on a deal to sign Monaco defender Djibril Sidibe.
Sidibe, a 25-year-old French international, has been on the books of Monaco since joining the club from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Lille in the summer of 2016.
And the powerful full-back, known for his abilities in attacking areas, has since gone on to establish himself as an absolutely crucial member of Leonardo Jardim’s squad at the Stade Louis.
Sidibe appeared 29 times during Monaco’s Ligue 1-winning campaign in 2016/17, racking up 2 goals and 5 assists, with the 17-time capped Les Bleus’ international having added a further 2 league goals and 7 assists for the principality outfit this past season.
Sidibe was one of a number of Monaco’s stars to be linked with a departure from the club last summer, following the amazing campaign which saw Les Monégasques clinch the French top-flight title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
However, in the end, despite the departures of the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva, Sidibe, along with Fabinho and Thomas Lemar, stayed put.
But, after Fabinho’s move to Liverpool was confirmed late last month, and Monaco announced that they had found an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the sale of Thomas Lemar this week, the Ligue 1 outfit are now seemingly close to parting ways with yet another of their biggest stars.
As per the aforementioned report from TeleFoot, following their deal for Lemar, Diego Simeone’s Atletico are now pursuing a move for Djibril Sidibe, with the two clubs currently locked in negotiations over the French stopper.
TeleFoot add that personal terms have already been agreed between the full-back and Rojiblancos, with Atletico hopeful of completing a deal for somewhere between 20 and 30 million Euro.
