Julen Lopetegui & Real Madrid

On Tuesday night the news was made official.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Spanish national team boss, Julen Lopetegui, will be their new coach.

Lopetegui will succeed Zinedine Zidane in the Santiago Bernabeu dugout.

51-year-old Lopetegui has been in charge of Spain since 2016, and has spent previous spells at the helm of the likes of Rayo Vallecano and Porto.

Are Spain about to sack Lopetegui?

Rumours have set social media alight on Wednesday, a day before the start of the 2018 World Cup.

Just a few weeks ago Lopetegui agreed a deal with the Spanish FA To extend his contract to 2020.

However, after Lopetegui’s deal with Real Madrid it’s obvious that the coach has turned his back on the La Roja national team.

Now a fight seems to be brewing as the head of the RFEF (Spanish FA) Luis Rubiales has slammed Lopetegui in public.

Rubiales has said he is ‘furious’ and ‘deeply upset’ with Lopetegui’s Real Madrid deal, as reported by Football Espana.

If Lopetegui is relieved of his duties today, rumours are that Spain Under-21 Coach Albert Celades and the RFEF’s Fernando Hierro could take charge of the national team at the World Cup.
