Man United & Tottenham’s Danny Rose

Rumours have been flying about for months that Danny Rose could leave Tottenham.

The stories were sparked by an infamous interview Rose gave to the Sun.

In that Sun interview, Rose admitted that he was homesick and he has plans to leave Spurs to move back north.

Manchester United have long been listed as a potential suitor for the England international left-back.

But, on Wednesday morning, the Times have confirmed that Rose’s potential move to Old Trafford is off.

Jose Mourinho changes his mind

The Times announce that Jose Mourinho no longer wants Rose at Man United:

Danny Rose’s hopes of a move to Manchester United have nosedived after José Mourinho’s decision not to pursue a deal for the Tottenham Hotspur left back.

Mourinho has informed Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, that Rose is no longer a primary target. The situation will represent a blow to Rose, who was hoping to move back to the north to be closer to his family.

So will Man United start looking for another left-back target this summer?

Perhaps not.

The Times believe that Mourinho may already have enough options at left-back. This summer United have already signed Diogo Dalot from Porto, and the 19-year-old can fill in at left-back.

Alternatively, and in something of a shock, Luke Shaw may be given yet another chance to impress at Old Trafford.

Ashley Young will also remain at United in 2018-19 after he signed a one-year contract extension.

As for Rose, he now faces a dilemma. He can buckle down at Tottenham and fight for a starting berth with Ben Davies.

Alternatively Rose can start from scratch in looking for an alternative club to move to.
