Raheem Sterling’s Manchester City future in doubt

Sky Sports News have this morning reported that Raheem Sterling is facing an uncertain future at Manchester City after he has failed to agree on a new long-term deal with City.

Failed negotiations

Sterling and City are said to be miles apart on Sterling’s wages. The two parties have already met twice since the season finished.

But after negations broke down both times, there are currently no plans in place for fresh talks, despite City wanting the issue sorted before the World Cup.

This has cast doubt over Sterling’s future with City, something no Manchester City fan will be pleased about. Especially after the season Sterling just had.

Super season

Manchester City smashed the Premier League last season. They finished with 100 points from 38 games and broke numerous records.

One player who was particularly impressive for City in their title-winning season was Raheem Sterling.

Prior to the 2017/18 season Sterling had always been a decent winger. But he had never managed to add enough goals and assists to his game to make him world-class.

However, in the 2017/18 season, Sterling proved he is one of the best wingers in the Premier League.

In 33 Premier League games for City, last season Sterling scored 18 and assisted 15, a simply ridiculous record for a winger.

Sterling even scored more than players such as Romelu Lukaku, Roberto Firmino, Alexandre Lacazette and Gabriel Jesus.

Now, however, due to the failed contract negotiations, Sterling’s future is very much up in the air but if City have any sense, they will give Sterling whatever contract he wants after the campaign he has just had.

Sterling has now joined up with the England squad in Russia for the upcoming World Cup. So, it is likely nothing will be resolved until after the World Cup is over.
