Official: Wolves sign Mexican international Raul Jimenez

Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers have this evening announced the loan signing of Raul Jimenez from Benfica.

Out of favour

Jimenez, a 27-year-old forward, spent the last 3 seasons plying his trade with Benfica, having made the move to the Portuguese giants from Atletico Madrid in 2015.

However, after being considered a bit part-player in the Spanish capital, Jimenez has once again struggled for regular playing time at the Estádio da Luz, having managed just 12 league starts across the last 2 seasons.

The South American was utilised as something of a super-sub this past season, having been introduced from the bench on a whopping 27 occasions in the Liga NOS.

Despite having managed just 970 total minutes in the league, though, Jimenez nevertheless managed to rack up a respectable 6 goals and 6 assists.

Though he has struggled somewhat at club level over recent years, Jimenez is an experienced Mexican international, and will head to this summer’s World Cup with El Tri having racked up 13 goals in 63 outings for his country.

And Jimenez’s experience on the international stage has likely played an important role in his latest transfer, amid news that English outfit Wolves have today secured the attacker’s signature from Benfica on a season-long loan deal for the 2018/19 campaign:
