Liverpool interested in £62m rated Federico Chiesa

The Guardian is today reporting that Liverpool have turned their attention to Fiorentina’s 20-year-old Federico Chiesa who is valued at around £62 million.

Liverpool may also face competition from Inter Milan who have been told they must pay £70 million for Chiesa.

Fekir replacement

The reason Liverpool have likely turned their attention to Chiesa is because their deal for Lyon’s Nabil Fekir fell through over the weekend.

On Saturday evening Lyon released an official statement regarding Fekir’s transfer to Liverpool.

“Olympique Lyonnais informs that the tripartite negotiations with the Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded ,

“And that Olympique Lyonnais has decided to put an end to this negotiation tonight.

“Although Liverpool has been the priority of a possible transfer of Nabil, and subject to other proposals consistent with the interest of Nabil and OL and from ambitious clubs,

“Olympique Lyonnais is delighted soon to be able to count on the presence of their captain who is a leading player for this season 2018/2019,

“During which the club will play the Champions League being in the 3rd hat of the draw.”

As a result, Liverpool are now having to look elsewhere for an attack-minded midfielder and Chiesa could well be that man.

Chiesa has spent all of his short career with Fiorentina. In July of 2014 Chiesa was promoted from Fiorentina’s youth ranks to their B side.

The Italian would play 40 games for Fiorentina’s second team, scoring 11 and assisting four in that time.

Then, in 2016, Chiesa would be promoted to Fiorentina’s first team where he has already managed 72 appearances for them, scoring 10 and assisting 12 in those games.

Chiesa is also a very versatile player. He is naturally a right-winger. However, Chiesa can also play left wing, centre-forward, left mid, right mid, central attacking midfielder and as a secondary striker.

So, if Liverpool does splash the cash for the young wonderkid, he could play pretty much wherever they needed him to in the attacking third.
