Tottenham lead Arsenal in race for Marseille star Sanson

As per a report from French outlet La Provence, Tottenham are currently leading a number of Premier League clubs in the race for Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson.

Creative spark

Sanson, a versatile 23-year-old midfielder, has been on the books of Marseille since last January, when he joined the club from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier for a fee of 9 million Euro, plus bonuses.

And the highly-regarded former French U21 international’s star has continued to rise at the Orange Vélodrome, with his performances in Ligue 1 and the Europa League this past season having caught the eye of a number of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Sanson racked up 10 goals and 3 assists across all competitions for Marseille over the course of the campaign, with the technically-gifted midfielder’s agent having opened up on interest in his client from around Europe during an interview with FootMercato last week:

‘Tottenham really follow Morgan, Arsenal follow him too,‘ Michael Manuello explained.

‘Now I do not know what Unai Emery will want. Chelsea will not advance more than that [their interest]. They will go on to other things.’

Morgan Sanson tackles Koke during the UEFA Europa League Final between Olympique de Marseille and Club Atletico de Madrid at Stade de Lyon on May 16, 2018 in Lyon, France.

‘Sevilla appreciate him a lot, That is true. But I do not think they will have the financial means.’

‘Valencia are also interested, but they have Geoffrey Kondogbia so I do not think they will go any further.’

‘I think in Italy we will have one or two surprises.’

PL bound?

And, as per the aforementioned update from La Provence this evening, a clear leading candidate has today emerged in the race for Sanson’s services, in the form of Tottenham.

The North Londoners are known to be keen on adding depth to their attacking midfield ranks this summer, with La Provence’s report adding that Spurs could soon lodge an official bid for the Frenchman.
