Juventus defender Alex Sandro ‘no longer on Man United’s radar’

Juventus defender Alex Sandro ‘no longer on Man United’s radar’

As per a report from the Manchester Evening News, Premier League giants Manchester United have ended their interest in the signature of Juventus star Alex Sandro.

As was widely reported for much of last summer, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was in the market for full-back reinforcements ahead of his side’s return to the Champions League this past season, with Sandro having topped the Italian tactician’s wishlist.

Brazilian international Sandro has developed into one of world football’s finest left-backs since his move to Turin from Porto in 2015.

However, having lost both Leonardo Bonucci and Dani Alves to AC Milan and PSG respectively during the summer transfer window, the Bianconeri were unwavering in their stance regarding Sandro, with bids of up to 70 million Euro having reportedly been turned down by the Serie A champions.

Reports emanating from Italy over the months that followed had suggested that Sandro was close to agreeing a new contract with Juve, but a major dip in form to start out the campaign seemingly saw talks grind to a halt.

The last couple of months of the season saw the South American rediscover much of his previous brilliance, with Sandro having even been utilised in a more advanced left-wing position by Bianconeri boss Max Allegri on occasion.

Nevertheless, though, the uncertainty surrounding his future has remained.

The three clubs most heavily touted as potential destinations for Sandro in both the English and Italian press have been Chelsea, PSG and Manchester United, and, after Jose Mourinho hinted at the arrival of a Brazilian at Old Trafford this summer (a deal for Fred has since been confirmed) during a recent interview, the Manchester Evening News then went on to claim that Sandro was being ‘prioritised’ over the rest of the club’s left-back targets.

Luke Shaw is widely expected to depart Old Trafford this summer, with the likes of Danny Rose and Kieran Tierney, along with Sandro, having been named as possible replacements.

Pursuit ended

However, as mentioned above, the Manchester Evening News have today backtracked on their previous claims regarding United’s interest in Sandro, by revealing that the Red Devils are no longer interested in the Brazilian’s signature.

Juventus recently confirmed that they are once again attempting to tie Sandro down to a new deal in Turin, with Jose Mourinho’s decision to pursue other targets no doubt set to work in the favour of the Bianconeri in their efforts to secure the 27-year-old’s long-term future.
