Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and more on alert as trio of Sporting CP stars terminate contracts

Huge news emanating from Portugal this evening has revealed that 3 of Sporting CP’s biggest stars have lodged the official paperwork to have their respective contracts terminated.

Disgraceful scenes

The hammer blow for Sporting comes in the wake of a group of the club’s fans breaking into the training ground of the Liga NOS giants last month, after now-former manager Jorge Jesus’ men failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Up to 50 individuals were said to have been involved in the act, which left several of the club’s staff and players injured:

The aftermath of the incident has already proved costly for Sporting, with manager Jorge Jesus having departed for Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal, and both Rui Patrício and Daniel Podence having terminated their respective contracts at the Estádio José Alvalade.

And, as per a report from Portuguese outlet Record, which has since gained widespread traction, another trio of Sporting’s stars, in the form of William Carvalho, Bruno Fernandes and Gelson Martins, have this evening also sent the necessary documentation to the FPF (the Portuguese Football Federation) to have their Sporting deals rescinded.

The three players have invoked ‘just cause’ to terminate their contracts, based on last month’s attack and subsequent comments on behalf of club President Bruno de Carvalho .

The news is no doubt set to spark a frenzy of transfer activity, with all 3 players having been in-demand even before today’s action.

Holding midfielder Carvalho has been linked with the likes of Everton, Juventus, Inter Milan and West Ham, and was on the verge of a move to the Olympic Stadium last summer.

Explosive winger Martins is rumoured to be on the wishlist of both Arsenal and Juventus, with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Liverpool having also been named as admirers.

Finally, attacking midfielder Fernandes, who racked up a hugely-impressive 16 goals and 20 assists this past season, has been touted as a target for both Tottenham and Liverpool.
