With free agency set to begin at midnight, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder await Paul George‘s decision.

Well, Westbrook is kicking off the free-agency period in style.’s Royce Young reported that the former NBA MVP is hosting a “summer hype house party” on Saturday night, although the reason behind the party is not clear. George reportedly arrived in OKC earlier in the day, so it’s possible that the shindig could be related to his decision in some manner.

Then again, Westbrook could just be trying to live it up this offseason.

Per Young, there will be 500 guests and a “surprise performance by a multi-platinum artist,” with Nas as the rumored performer. Attendees will reportedly have to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

The Thunder point guard made it clear during the season that he wasn’t going to make some elaborate recruiting pitch to George, instead wanting to let the team’s play do the talking:

Perhaps Westbrook decided to change his approach after the Utah Jazz knocked OKC out of the playoffs in the first round.

On a related note, Marc Stein of the New York Times reported on Saturday that George is “strongly considering signing a two- or three-year deal to stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder.”

Croatia’s Modric ‘from a different planet’, says Rakitic

Croatia’s Modric ‘from a different planet’, says Rakitic

World Cup 2018: Best goals of the group stage
2018 Fifa World Cup last 16 – Croatia v Denmark
Venue: Nizhny Novgorod Date: Sunday, 1 July Time: 19:00 BST
Coverage: Listen live on BBC Radio 5 live and follow live text commentary on the BBC Sport website and app

Luka Modric is from a “different planet” and the best player in Croatia’s history, says team-mate and fellow midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

Modric, 32, has scored twice at the World Cup, leading his side to a last-16 tie with Denmark by coming through the group stage with a 100% record.

Rakitic has played alongside Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta at Barcelona.

“Both of them are among the best players ever in their positions,” said the 30-year-old.

Modric joined Real Madrid from Premier League side Tottenham in 2012 and has won three Champions League titles, as well as La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

Iniesta is one of the most successful players in history, and left Barcelona at the end of last season to join Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

He had been at the Spanish giants since the age of 12, making 674 senior appearances and winning 32 trophies.

Rakitic said: “It seems like both of them are from different planets and they came to play football with us mortals here.

“It has been a great honour to play with Andres in the last four years at Barcelona, and with Luka for the last 11 years for Croatia.

“If I created a football team, I would have both of them in my team. Andres is one of my best friends and I see Luka as my big brother.”

Former Real and Barca midfielder Robert Prosinecki, who won 49 caps for Croatia, has said Modric is the country’s best ever player.

“I would agree completely,” added Rakitic. “Not only that Luka is the best player, but he is a great person, a leader and we are following him. I am sure he can feel our confidence in him.”

On Sunday, Modric will come up against a man who succeeded him at Spurs – Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen.

In a post on Twitter with less than five hours remaining before the start of free agency, Embiid appeared to send a message to James regarding his legacy amid rumblings that he could land with the Los Angeles Lakers:

The Sixers, along with the Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers, are one of the few teams that have been linked to James as he prepares to hit the open market for the first time since 2014.

According to updated odds released Saturday on OddsShark, the Lakers are massive -5000 favorites (bet $5,000 to win $100) to secure James’ services. The field, meanwhile, is listed at +1500.
