The New York Yankees were forced to spend Wednesday night at Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

Speaking to Newsday‘s Erik Boland, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the 12-hour overnight stay at the airport was “an unfortunate set of circumstances.”

Those circumstances included a number of issues, including mechanical problems with the team’s charter airplane and no hotels available in the Washinton D.C. area.

The Yankees were scheduled to play a two-game series against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday and Wednesday. The first game was suspended after six innings due to rain, and the second game was washed out before it got started.

That’s been the only thing capable of slowing down the Yankees so far in 2018. The Evil Empire left Dulles International Airport with a 28-12 record, best in Major League Baseball.
