Played like a fiddle

One manager who was in the running for the West Ham managerial position has agreed to sign a new contract with his current club instead.

The club let David Moyes go on Wednesday and their hunt for a new manager is now underway.

The Scotsman was only able to keep the club in the Premier League but is ultimately not the man to take them forward.

Now, there are several high profile managers in the running for the Hammers job.

Though, Paulo Fonseca will not be one of them having decided against signing for the club following an interview with the clubs hierarchy.

The Portuguese boss is very highly rated in Europe after an impressive campaign with Shakhtar Donetsk.

It was thought that he was the favourite for the job but reports have since suggested that he could have been using West Ham for a pay rise in Ukraine.

That certainly looks as though it could be the case following the announcement of his renewal.

Where now for West Ham?

With one manager down, there are a few options still available for the West Ham job.

Manuel Pellegrini is one of them and is actually favourite with bookmaker Sky Bet.

Rafa Benitez is also one of them, with the Spanish boss unsure whether to continue his journey with Newcastle.

Former Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri is a new contender after leaving FC Nantes this week.

Though, whoever it is, they have one hell of a job on their hands to get West Ham playing good football again.
